Featured Project Xcel Energy has begun constructing of its first new coal-fired electric generating unit in nearly 30 years. In addition, to the New Unit 3 Xcel Energy is also upgrading the Emission Systems on Units 1 and 2. The Comanche Station near Pueblo, Colorado, is the site for a new 750MW supercritical pulverized coal-generating unit. This adds to two existing units that generate about 660MW. When the Comanche 3 is complete, the site will provide enough electricity for about one third of Colorado's communities FPD Power Development is providing the electrical construction the Emissions Upgrades for the pulverized coal-fired systems on Units 1 and 2. And at the same time some of the BOP for Unit 3. The new systems will feature low-NOx burners and selective catalytic reduction to control nitrogen oxide (NOx), a fabric filter dust collector (FFDC) to capture particulates, a lime spray dryer to control sulfur dioxide (SO2) and mercury emission controls. The project includes the addition of dry scrubbers, low NOx burners and mercury controls on the existing Units 1 and 2 which are each rated at 350 MW. FPD Power Development is in the construction of the new Roberts & Schaffer Coal Handling Systems for unit's 1, 2 and 3. |
